Here we are further in the Eastern Europe countries ! We go through Croatian borders without any problems :

We will spend 3 days in Croatia, quite a fast trip. We will spend our time in the area of a natural park, named Kopački Rit. It is a wetland preserved zone, between deux big rivers : Danube and Drava. It will be the ideal place to have a rest day, well deserved !

We even offer ourself the lux of host room for 2 nights ! We are very happy not to pack and unpack all our stuff for once ! We take the chance of this extra time to improve a little our cooking, tonight it will be rice, quinoa, tomato, peppers and coco milk, delicious !

Our hostess, a nice woman, will even offer us home made cakes the two nights that we will spend in her place, we are simply happy !

So we take the road again, full of energy. And for the first time for both of us, we will enter a brand new country, we had never been before : Serbia !

To go through the border between Croatia and Serbia, it is already a little bit more complicated. As we are no longer in the European zone. It takes a bit longer to check our passeport, and this time we earn a little stamps on our passeport ! It is always quite funny to arrive with our bikes in the borders, stand in line between a few cars and a lot of trucks !

The start in Serbia is quite soft, dogs are not attacking yet, and stay quietly to our sides without asking too much for food :

Views are quite nice :

And our first stop is for a coffee for Emilie and a beer for Romain, 1€ for a pinte, Serbia please us !

For our first night in Serbia, we did not really planed where to sleep. And camp sites are totally non-existent in this area. So we asked to people that look nice if they would agree that we put our tent in their garden. After two refusals, we got a yes ! It will be in a nice place in front of the house, a tiny green spot, just enough to put the tent, great !

In the morning we leave quite early, we planned a very small step of 38 km, we thought it would be fast and easy but it was not considering the wind! Strong face wind with a bad road and a lot of traffic. Romain will call it the « worst cycling day ». It took us 4 hours for very few km ! Cycling can be frustrating sometimes. We finally arrive to Novi Sad, one of the biggest city in Serbia. Romain take the chance to immediately put the slippers in, juste like home :

Novi Sad, is a really nice city, colorfull, welcoming, we really loved it :

We go to a burger restaurant ! If we cycle that much it is also to eat french fries with cheese on it 😀 !

We continue the visit :

The citadel :

For information, in 1999, so not so long ago, Novi Sad has been bombed, and the bridge that we took to reach the citadel was destroyed. Among a lot of victims, there is a small memorial for a young man who was killed during those bombing, he was 29. Those recent events are still in the memories.

We continue our visit with the groovy district, where we beleive there must be good music and ambiance during the saturday night, the place look good :

This small break in Novi Sad was great, really a nice city, we are pleased to have discovered it. We take back our bikes, direction the capital city of Serbia, we follow mainly the Eurovélo6 :

We have company for our lunch break :

Still a few kilometers to ride, with still face wind :

And we arrive in Belgrade, the name previously meant the « white city » (this was before, because now the city is really not white anymore), it is bigger version of Novi Sad, with also more noise, more big buildings, a bit older, well that is our first impression :

But there are also nice places to see in this city :

And culture life is great, we took the chance to visit the museum of Yougoslavia, very interesting :

It is a museum dedicated to Yougoslav politician Tito :

In this city, there is also a nice citadel to see. When we were there, it was a sunny sunday and we were not the only one ! All Belgrade was out there !

After a visit in a city such as Belgrade, nothing is better then to go back in a Camp site, in the begining of the season, near the Danube to be back in the calm !

After Belgrade, we continue to follow the Eurovélo6, we are very surprised to cycle a few kilometers and to reach this kind of place :

As the place is nice, let say quiet, we take the chance to have our lunch time there, and finally to eat our first Burek ! Since we arrived in Serbia, Romain had talked about this culinary particularity ! It is a kind of butter cake mix mainly with cheese, it was very good ! We recommand.

This is the end of this article, with roads more or less easy :

Monday 8 of April stop was a bit particular, we stopped in Serbia in a small village named Skorenovac. We were surprised that everyboday here speak Hungarian, you will have to ask the history story, when borders were different to understand why !

The stay in the small vélo-camping, is very nice, we will even sleep in a warm room instead of our tent, the lady who hold the place think it is better for us ! Thank you very much 😉

Next episode will come very soon, we will still spend 2 more days in Serbia and reach after Romania !

See you very soon
